Who I Am

A Native of This City

I love Providence. I grew up here in the neighborhoods I represent, and I have raised my family here as well.

I live on Pleasant Valley Parkway with my husband of 30 years, attorney Thomas J. Ryan, and our children attorney Brendan F. Ryan and Megan F. Ryan, TCRG, MBA. My parents were hard-working people.  Mom, Eve Flanagan, worked 12-hour days in her beauty salon on Academy Ave  in the heart of the Ward, and my dad Tom Flanagan, was a Providence police officer.  My strong work ethic came from their quiet examples, a work ethic I bring to my role as your Councilwoman.

I am a professional woman, wife and mom. My experience and passion make me a strong advocate for my constituents in Elmhurst, Mt. Pleasant and Manton!

Fiscally Focused

I have a solid career in finance (currently I am a Vice President at Customers Bank), and my forward thinking financial programs have won numerous awards for helping working class families become homeowners throughout the city.

I got my start in finance at Providence College, where I earned a B.S. in Business Administration and my M.B.A in Business Adminstration. Other career achievements include:

  • Over 30 years in the Rhode Island banking industry with a focus on asset management

  • Program Compliance Officer for the Rhode Island Housing and Mortgage Finance Corporation

  • Assistant Vice President at Old Stone Bank and Rhode Island Hospital Trust

  • Certification's in Home Ownership Counseling and Foreclosure Prevention

A Dedicated Councilor

I take my role as our Ward representative seriously, and my dedication to my community and City have lead to some pretty great achievements in my past four years on the Providence City Council.

  • I am the current Majority Leader

  • I am the Chairperson of the Committee on Ordinances

  • I am Vice Chair of the Finance Committee
