Halloween Safety Tips from the PPD

The Providence Police Department wants kids in the City to have a frighteningly good time this Halloween. They’ve compiled a list of tips that will ensure they’ll have fun while staying safe!

FOR KIDS

  • Wear reflective bracelets, tape, or carry a flashlight so cars and bikers and see you

  • Only cross at the crosswalk, with the light and ALWAYS look both ways

  • Stay on streets and in neighborhoods that you know

  • Only approach well-lit houses with the porch light on

  • Stay on the sidewalk whenever possible

FOR PARENTS

  • Monitor all Halloween goodies your kids bring home

  • Always have an adult chaperone walking with your kids

  • Keep all pathways and stairs leading to your home free of obstacles for your visitors

  • Keep costumes safe. Avoid masks and long dragging costumes that pose tripping hazards

FOR PETS

  • Keep all candy out of their reach. Chocolate can be very bad for dogs and cats

  • To avoid biting incidents, keep anxious or aggressive animals away from the action

  • Be mindful of where you place jack o’ lanterns
