Green Initiative: End of Single-Use Plastic Bags

My Message in a Special Edition Newsletter from City Council

Re-usable grocery bags are a great alternative to single use plastic bags.

Re-usable grocery bags are a great alternative to single use plastic bags.

In the lead up to Tuesday, October 22 when the Plastic Bag Reduction Act will be enacted, the Providence City Council has published a special edition of the Providence City Council newsletter, which features a special message from me talking about the importance of reducing the use of single-use plastics in the city and the world. This is a global-crisis, but locally this ban will improve our waterways by reducing plastic bag waste in our rivers, streams, and beautiful Narragansett Bay.

In addition to sharing my excitement over this bill becoming law in the City, this newsletter also provides facts about plastic usage and offers tips to help you reduce single use plastics in your own life.

This is the first step to reducing plastic usage, and I’m am extremely proud of the work I have done to see this ordinance come into fruition. Thank you to my colleagues and the mayor who supported these efforts!
